About The Fiddling Librarian 3.0

The Fiddling Librarian 3.0 is Kevin Smith’s personal weblog. Kevin is a graduate with an MLS from IUPUI. Kevin is the Assistant Director of the Cass District Library which is in Cass County Michigan. He maintains the web site and is in charge of reference and adult services, as well as branch coordination.

Kevin has been married to his wife Ashley for more than sixteen years. They have an eight year old daughter named Julia, and a son named Avery who just turned six, as well as several assorted pets.

Kevin also plays the viola and has a degree in music education. He taught for one year, and decided he better get out if he wanted to avoid being admitted to a psychiatric hospital. He has played with the South Bend, Elkhart, Muncie and Northern Kentucky Symphonies. His playing now is limited to weddings and a few quartet recitals a year.

    Hi there!

Dig your website. Viola power to you!

  2. Hey, Kev! Found you by accident by doing a search on “Big Brother” (a network monitoring software) and Dynix and Horizon. Noted you’re moving to Horizon… we went this past December. Noted the info on the merger… John Rose from Dynix is coming to talk to us (PALnet) next week about it…

Love to see a librarian PROVIDING info!

And empathize with your quandry about house sales!

    Kevin,
    Great work with Edubuntu!!!
i have been trying to get Edubuntu into our library for a few years. We this week i will install it for a test run. My only issue is the autologin. i still can’t seem to get it working. Can you email me the steps you took to get yours working? I am using Edubuntu 7.10. I have read your other post on how you did it but it doesn’t seem to work for me?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Kevin, Almost gave up in my testing because TuxMath was running so slow. Problem was TuxMath itself. The new version 1.5.9 solves that problem and more.
Don’t forget “unstable should be tested first” on another machine. It worked just great in my testing on just i client. I’m several months from deploying in a production environment though.

If this works for you, please post back on the list (that’s where I found your post).
